You are here:  Australia > Northern Teritory

There are few places in the world as vast and remote as the Northern Territory, which extends from Ayers Rock known as central Australia or the red centre as far North as Darwin known as the Top End. While the magnitude of its wide open spaces is part its appeal, you cannot plan to ‘see it all’ in a day or two. It can take a few days just to travel from the Top End to Central Australia and each area offers a completely new experience with a completely new environment to consider. The most unique facets of Aboriginal culture are maintained in many parts the Northern Territory, where you can view amazing rock art and learn about their ancient traditions, however to help respect this, travellers require permits when visiting certain Aboriginal lands and should observe rules regarding alcohol restrictions in some areas. The Northern Territory enjoys a similar climate to Queensland, Central Australia remains hot and dry throughout the year and the Top End experiences a tropical climate with the wet season from January to March.
