Tasmania is the only island state of Australia, a place of wild and beautiful landscapes; friendly welcoming people; a pleasant temperate climate; wonderful food & wine; a rich history; and a relaxed island lifestyle.  Being the most Southern of Australian states the winter in Tasmania can be very cold, with the possibility of snow from May to August. Tasmania is a land of unspoilt pristine wilderness with dramatic coastlines, rugged mountains, tall forests and sparkling highland lakes, with over a third of the state reserved as National Parks and World Heritage sites. Hobart is the quaint capital city, set on a wonderful harbour and provides a good base to visit neighbouring historical town of Port Arthur. Other Highlights include the pretty fishing village of Strahan on the west coast, the world Heritage Cradle Mountain National Park in the North, the wineries surrounding the town of Launceston in the North West and the famous wineglass bay in Freycinet National Park on the East Coast. The best way to see the island is by following a self drive itinerary or partaking in an organised tour.
